About Turnkey Electricity Generation Agricultural Residue Floating Drum Thermophilic Anaerobic Digester Plant

This turnkey facility utilizes a continuous plug-flow, floating-drum anaerobic digestion system engineered specifically for lignocellulosic agricultural residues. Feedstock undergoes mechanical pretreatment via high-torque shredding before an automated, progressive-cavity screw-feeding assembly conveys the macerated biomass beneath the liquid level to eliminate oxygen ingress.

Within the primary digestion vessel, internal flow dynamics follow a continuous-flow stirred-tank (CSTR) hydraulic profile. Low-speed, high-torque mechanical draft-tube mixers provide homogeneous mass transfer, prevent crust formation from fibrous residues, and suppress thermal stratification. The digester operates strictly in the thermophilic regime (52C55C), sustained by an external shell-and-tube heat exchanger circulating heated water through an insulated, jacketed digester wall.

Biogas is captured under a counterbalanced floating steel gasholder, maintaining a stable operating pressure (~1525 mbar) while dampening production spikes. Upstream biological and dry-desulfurization scrubbers strip hydrogen sulfide and moisture before the methane-rich gas (55%65% $\text{CH}_4$) powers a combined heat and power (CHP) reciprocating gas engine. The CHP unit recovers electrical energy at the grid connection while routing jacket-cooling and exhaust heat back into digester thermal maintenance, achieving high round-trip energetic efficiency.
