This industrial-scale anaerobic digestion facility utilizes an engineered, geomembrane-covered high-solids anaerobic digestion (HSAD) lagoon system designed for nitrogen-rich, high-lignocellulose poultry litter operating at 1522% total solids (TS).

* **Digester Flow Dynamics & Substrate Feeding:** Raw litter undergoes automated mechanical destringing, de-stoning, and shredding before being metered through heavy-duty positive-displacement progressive cavity pumps and twin-screw plug-feed conveyors. The digester operates on a continuous, baffled plug-flow regime featuring internal draft barriers to prevent hydraulic short-circuiting and optimize solids retention time (SRT: 3545 days).

* **Mechanical Mixing & Solids Management:** Slurry homogenization and crust destruction beneath the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) gas-tight membrane are achieved using rail-mounted, low-speed/high-torque submersible mechanical draft-tube mixers combined with timed multi-port biogas recirculating spargers.

* **Thermal Regime:** The system maintains a tightly controlled mesophilic regime (38C 1C) via sub-liner high-density PEX radiant heating loops coupled to insulated exterior shell-and-tube heat exchangers, preventing thermal shock and mitigating ammonia toxicity ($NH_3\text{-}N$).

* **Biogas & Energy Recovery:** Methane is captured by the negative-pressure membrane cover, conditioned through biological desulfurization ($H_2S$ stripping) and chilling condensation, and routed to a high-efficiency Combined Heat and Power (CHP) reciprocating genset. The CHP exports baseload green electricity while redirecting jacket-water and exhaust waste heat back into digester thermal balancing.
