This utility-scale waste-to-energy facility utilizes a horizontal, continuous plug-flow dry anaerobic digestion architecture designed to co-digest high-solids dairy manure alongside source-separated commercial organic waste (2040% total solids). The feedstock advances sequentially through an elongated, reinforced-concrete tunnel reactor in a strict first-in, first-out regime. A hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 20 to 30 days is maintained, preventing hydraulic short-circuiting and ensuring comprehensive biological conversion.

### Mechanical Feeding & Agitation

Bulk substrate is pre-conditioned via shredding and magnetic separation before being introduced into the digester by high-torque, heavy-duty piston pumps and sealed feed augers that prevent gas leakage. Within the reactor, intermittent, low-speed transverse paddle agitators or axial slow-turning shaft reels gently mix the viscous bed. This mechanical action releases entrapped biogenic gas, disrupts foam and scum layers, and encourages mass transfer without compromising the linear plug-flow profile.

### Thermal Regime & Energy Recovery

The system operates within an automated mesophilic (3740C) or thermophilic (5255C) thermal regime, sustained via external heat exchangers and radiant floor/wall heating circuits. The generated methane-rich biogas (5565% $\text{CH}_4$) is desulfurized, dried, and directed to a combined heat and power (CHP) unit. The CHP produces renewable baseload electricity for grid export and recovers thermal energy to self-sustain digester heating, with remaining digestate separated into pathogen-free solid soil amendments and concentrated liquid fertilizer.
