This industrial-scale anaerobic digestion facility is engineered for high-solids waste management, treating animal manure with high total solids (1530% TS). Configured as a circular, baffled horizontal plug-flow reactor (Valorga type), digester flow dynamics follow a guided annular path around a central partition wall, driven continuously from feed port to effluent discharge.

Mechanical feeding employs heavy-duty progressive cavity or piston pumps coupled with an automated inoculum recycle loop, where active methanogenic digestate is blended back into the incoming substrate to accelerate hydrolysis and stabilize volatile fatty acid (VFA) loading. Rather than conventional mechanical impellers, mixing relies on a pneumatic pulse agitation system: pressurized biogas is injected sequentially through bottom-mounted injectors, creating bubble swarms that lift settled solids, disrupt crust formation, and preserve longitudinal plug-flow zoning.

Operating under a tightly regulated thermophilic regime (5255C) to maximize pathogen inactivation and kinetic breakdown rates, thermal homeostasis is sustained via external counter-current tube-in-tube heat exchangers and jacket insulation. Produced biogas undergoes desulfurization and moisture knockout before entering a combined heat and power (CHP) unit, recovering electricity for grid export and high-temperature thermal energy to supply parasitic digester heating and pasteurization demands.
